Chalk drawings
These works explore the connection between plants and humans by playing on the similarities between the human and plant form, making reference to plants that are endangered or have cultural significance to certain areas of the world. For example, 'Dragon tree' which unmistacably looks like a tree and a set of lungs is inspired by the native 'dragon trees' of Yemen. Whereas, 'Acacia' which resembles both a kidney and a plant, is influenced by native golden Acacia trees in Australia which are under threat due to wild fires. The soft black chalk stands out against the black background, making the drawings pop and highlighting detailed markings. If I were to take this work further I would consider creating them as fine line etching to take advantage of being able to create a finer line.
